It seems that quite a number of people are urging Hillary Clinton to graciously “get out of the race” for the presidency. She stated this past weekend that women who have succeeded in male dominated fields, do not quit when the going gets rough. She is completely right on that account. If I had quit everytime I felt bullied, or put upon or just plain intimidated, I would have quit a thousand times. In order to succeed in a male dominated industry, you can never quit; that is unless it would be foolish not to do so because of such things as protecting your reputation or your good health. My favorite speech by Winton Churchill goes like this, “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.” I kept that speech on my inspiration wall, and I followed that advice to the T. One thing that you need to notice in that speech is that Churchill says never to give in except to convicitons of honor and good sense. I think that ultimately Hillary has to come to the realization that “good sense” involves keeping the democratic party intact and realizing that mathematically she cannot win. Also, Hillary is a smart woman. If she graciously steps out of the race, she has the ability to maintain her credibility and still be a force to be dealt with as a woman in the male dominated political field. I know quite a few smart, strong women. I know that they would know when to say when. You say “when”, when it makes good sense to do so.

I have quite a lot of differences with regard to Hillary Clinton and her run for the 2008 presidential election. Our political views are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. I do however, admit that she is an intelligent, hard-working woman. I also think that she is a good mother. To be able to be a good mother while working hard in a male dominated field is a feat, and I applaud her for that. That is why I am puzzled that she has allowed her husband to sabotage her candidacy. I do however, have a theory.
I think that Hillary Clinton, for all of her bravado, is just a woman who is in love with her husband and has been in love with him since the first day she set eyes on him in college. When I look at them, I see a girl I knew in high school who wore a slide rule on her belt. She was absolutely brilliant and when she fell for the quarterback of our football team it was a very sad thing to see. Had that quarterback chosen to date her, she would have given him anything and loved him forever and also been forever grateful to him for even looking in her direction. She would have forgiven him any indiscretion, and defended any wrong-doing on his part.
Now Hillary is the first credible female to run for the presidency in the history of this country. But I think that in her heart, she is still the girl with the slide rule on her belt being looked at by the football quarterback.
If I were her best girlfriend, I would be shaking her about now. Hillary needs to come to the realization that she needs to run for the presidency as her own woman. She does not need Bill to run interference for her. He has become a hindrance to her.
How dare Bill Clinton stand up in front of people and tell them that her 60 year old memory is not what it used to be? I sense just a tad bit of jealousy in that remark, along with more than a tad bit of resentment. What man would say that about his wife? Every man that I know would fear for his life if those words passed his lips.
Hillary, dear – please sit down with Bill and tell him that you appreciate his concern but you know what you are doing. You are a woman who is capable of getting yourself out of trouble when you misspeak. You do not need the added burden of getting him out of trouble when he misspeaks. A woman is very capable of succeeding on her own and in her own right in a male dominated field. He is not the quarterback anymore.
And one more thing…… Hillary, no matter how many shots with a beer chaser that you down, you will never, ever, ever be “one of the guys”. The guys know it, and you need to realize that fact. But it is OK not to be one of the guys. You just need to be “respected” by the guys. You need to have a talk with the person who arranged that ridiculous photo-op. Although, I was quite happy to see you down that shot. You probably needed it about now. I hope it was tequila.
